Last year, we built Asimov Partners as a thought experiment: could we build a real estate development company with zero employees by stringing AI and workflow automation tools together?

Back then, the Asimov concept was more theory than practice. But over the past few months, new companies have emerged that are pushing the boundaries of what has historically been possible in real estate development with a focus on the site analysis and feasibility step. In doing, they’re turning the conventional deal analysis and acquisition process on its head, threatening to fundamentally change real estate development itself.

Today’s letter will tackle these new technological advances and what they mean, specifically:

  • How companies are innovating on the feasibility step;

  • Players in the market;

  • Natural barriers and challenges to scaling feasibility automation;

  • A long view on the future of real estate development.
